I absolutely LOVE Collaboration Cuties and their mentor texts! I love it even more when it's Science that I can use in my classroom, right now I only teach Science and SS :( .
I am thrilled to be able to link up with them today!
I absolutely love this book!
It is great for introducing the concept of Specialized structures when teaching adaptations in animals.
It shows the students a variety of a body part such as a tail or a nose.
I then have the students infer what animal it is and what they use the body part for.
It is a GREAT way to show that different body parts are used for different things.
Students often have the misconception that body parts in all animals are used the same way we use them.
For example they all use their nose simply to smell.
I hope this has given you an idea about a great mentor text to introduce the concept of Specialized Structures!
